1671. Babinet Compensator
"RAC" to measure the constants of elliptical polarisation and double refraction due to strain in transparent media.
The compensator consists of two wedges of quartz, one fixed with optic axis in one direction while the other moving with optic axis in a perpendicular direction. The movable wedge is moved by means of a micrometer screw with a readable accuracy of .005 mm. The total movement of the same is 20 mm. The wedge system fixed in a box which is and integral part, can be rotated in a circular scale with least count 1/10 degree, fine and coarse movements are provided The analyser has an independent scale which can be arranged in any angular position with respect to wedges. The fringe width is 6 mm. Complete in cabinet.

1672. Babinet Compensator, With Nicol polarizer.

1673. Hand Refractometer:
The Laboratory Retractometer not being suitable for use in the field. The hand model of refractometer which is small and handy instrument and which maybe carried in a leather case is ready for rse on the spot in sugar cane plantation or wine yards ets.A few drops of juice placed into the rafractometer is sifficient to carry out the test.
Hand Refractometer supplied in ranges.
a) 0-32% b) 0-50% c) 28-62%
d) 40-85% e) 58-92% (PI. Specify)

1674. Michelson Interferometer
The instrument has a set of two front surface mirrors and two matched plane-parallel plates. mounted on a bedcarriage, supported by a massive stand and provided with levelling screws. The screw on which the moveable mirror is mounted is about 200 mm. and is optically ground with the corresponding nut. for high precision. The bed is ground optically plane to give smooth movement of the carriage. The full millimeter readings can be taken on the scale attached to the side of the bed & fractions are read on divided heads. The main screw is provided with mechanism for fast as well as slow motion drive. No disengagement of slow motion drive is required for changing to fast movement. One division of the drum-head of the slow-motion drive corresponds to 1/10.000 mm=.0001 mm. These mirrors are adjustable by a set of screw at the back of the frames. The plate used for splitting the beam is partially aluminised. This plate, as also the compensating plate, are perfect plane-parallel to better than a fraction of a second of arc. complete with Telescope for observation of fringes.
