Butyrometer, which is a device used in the dairy industry to measure the fat content in milk. It is a type of centrifuge that helps determine the milk's butterfat percentage. Here's how it works:

How a Butyrometer Works:

  1. Sample Collection: A small sample of milk is placed into the Butyrometer tube.

  2. Addition of Chemicals: To break down the milk and allow the fat to separate from the rest of the milk components, specific chemicals (such as sulfuric acid) are added.

  3. Centrifugation: The Butyrometer tube is then placed in a centrifuge. When spun, the milk separates into different layers based on density. The fat, being less dense than water, rises to the top.

  4. Fat Measurement: After centrifugation, the fat layer is visible in the tube, and the level of fat is measured. The percentage of fat is indicated directly on the scale of the Butyrometer.
