cathode ray tube (CRT) is a device used to display images by directing a stream of electrons (cathode rays) at a phosphorescent screen. When the electrons hit the screen, they create light, which forms images or displays. CRTs were once widely used in older television sets, computer monitors, and oscilloscopes before being replaced by flat-panel displays like LCDs and LEDs.

In physics experiments, CRTs can be used to demonstrate concepts like electron behavior, electric and magnetic fields, and the properties of cathode rays. They’re also still used in some specialized equipment, like oscilloscopes.
